Our branches

We have 24 UK branches (with 11 districts) and 5 international branches (with 5 districts). We have members in over 85 countries worldwide. The main aim of our branches is to strengthen the relationship between IOSH and the global health and safety community at a local level.

What are branches?

Our branches are located in local communities around the globe. Each branch is grouped together by postcodes (in the UK) or countries. Every branch is supported by a group of volunteers (the executive committee), who plan a variety of activities, such as seminars, workshops and site visits. Through local meetings or initiatives they help to support members by providing Continuing Professional Development (CPD), learning and networking opportunities. Branches also help to raise health and safety awareness in their local community by welcoming non-members to their free meetings and/or becoming involved in local initiatives.

What are districts?

Some branches cover a large geographical area so have associated districts to provide more meeting locations for their members. Each district comes under the umbrella of the main branch but has its own executive committee, which puts together a programme of events.

Benefits of being in a branch

Joining a branch gives you:

  • free or low-cost branch meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, webinars and site visits
  • the opportunity to promote health and safety in your local area
  • help with developing and maintaining your professional status
  • the chance to network with health and safety professionals in your area.

What's an executive committee?

Branch and district executive committees are made up of volunteers. Committee members are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) by the branch members and carry out various roles, including chair, secretary and treasurer. The executive committee meets periodically to put together its plan of activities. The committee acts as a focal point and liaison role between IOSH and the branch members. If you'd like to become a committee member, look out for nomination papers which are sent to all members about six weeks before the branch AGM.

Branch co-ordination committee

The Branch co-ordination committee supports the branch network. The committee is made up of elected branch committee members and meets at IOSH. If you're a branch committee member and would like to be nominated, visit our volunteers page.
