Benevolent Fund

As a membership body, one of IOSH’s greatest strengths lies in the networking and peer support opportunities that we facilitate.  However, support of a more tangible nature is sometimes needed by members of IOSH. Applicants should have been IOSH members for at least 3 years.

IOSH’s Benevolent Fund offers practical assistance to Institution members, former members and former employees suffering from extended ill health or disability, or experiencing hardship during a prolonged period of unemployment.  The Fund, registered with the Charity Commission and has a history dating back more than 20 years.  Over those years, the Fund has helped numerous current and former members, their families and dependents, during times of crisis and hardship.

The Trustees of the IOSH Benevolent Fund are able to support members by offering:

• Practical help during a period of illness
• Aids for temporary or permanent disability
• Help during unemployment – including education or training fees

Current Trustees
• Nick Cornwell-Smith (Chairman of Trustees and Past President)
• David Chapman
• Lynn Judge
• Stephen Mills
• Rob Strange (IOSH Chief Executive)

The IOSH Benevolent Fund is administered by Sue Carabott, Committees Administrator reporting to the Finance Director.

Report for the year ended 31 March 2010

The IOSH Benevolent Fund has recently completed its ninth year of operation in the new format.

Key points for the year are as follows:

  • capital donations in excess of £1,300 were received from members – the Trustees would like to place on record their sincere gratitude to those IOSH members who contributed towards this amount.
  • taking into account donations, interest and a decrease in the value of the COIF investment fund, the overall benevolent fund decreased by over £8,700.
  • the value of investments at the end of the financial year exceeded £64,000.

Applications for grants from the Fund are always welcomed and treated in total confidence.  In the first instance, applicants should contact Sue Carabott, explaining the circumstances and the type of assistance that is being sought.

You can then fill in this application form (PDF 76KB) and email it to us, or you can post it to: Sue Carabott, Corporate Services, IOSH, The Grange, Highfield Drive, Wigston, Leicestershire, LE18 1NN, UK.
