Letter from the Chair - Jan 2012
On behalf of all the EWMG committee we would like to wish all
our members a happy and prosperous new year.
In the last year the EWMG committee have developed stronger
links with the CIWM and are putting in place with IOSH a Memorandum
of Understanding (MOU) between IOSH and the CIWM (Chartered
Institiution of Wastes Management). In addition, we had
representation at the 2011 RWM exhibition at the NEC which was a
joint event with CIWM.
We have developed the new SHE course leading to an MSc with the
Open University; the course being interactive.
We are having an input into the revision of the ISO 14001
standards.
Andy Robertson from the committee has provided several waste
duty of care workshops to Branches and Occupational Safety groups
and has had outstanding responses from attendees, some of which
will be posted on the group website along with a podcast.
Unfortunately due to technical glitches we were unable to change
or develop the website but, the good news is that these issues are
now resolved so KEEP CHECKING FOR UPDATES and especially the
"News" section.
During 2012 we are looking to provide seminars and training
events for members and in October we have a proposed Environmental
Conference (1 day) planned as well as trying to arrange a shadowing
scheme for members with organisations to get experience.
In the mean time, please contact us and give us your views on
what you'd like to see on our Group website and importantly, what
you may be able to do for the benefit of the Group and its
membership.
