Welcome
A message from our new Chairman.
I am delighted to have taken over the role of Chairman of the
IOSH Construction Group. Following in the footsteps of John Lacey,
who is so widely known and respected throughout the industry, will
of course be a tough task, but we have a very strong committee and
we all hope we can provide a focal point of support
for our members. Many thanks to John for the leadership
he has given over the years and I'm very grateful to him for
deciding to remain as a member of our committee.
There have been a number of changes to the structure
and focus of the committee which, as a result, we believe closely
reflects the range of disciplines and the diverse nature of the
modern construction practice and which in turn are designed to
reflect the diverse range and various disciplines of our
members.
The IOSH Construction Group is the largest of the IOSH Groups,
with around 11,000 members and as a result, we want to ensure the
service that we provide, represents the broad range of
disciplines among our wide membership. Please see the
committee pages for more details.
We represent practitioners in client, designer, contractor,
supplier and enforcement organisations. Our committee reflects our
strong links with IOSH branches and our enthusiasm for working with
external organisations, both home and abroad.
One of the changes we have made straight away is to introduce a
Resource Centre onto our web pages. The idea is to grow, over a
period of time, directories of information which will
enable our members to gain quick access to what they need. In
addition to this, three of our new committee members, Steffan
Groch, Paul Paddock and Ian Strudley will be writing articles
on current topics (law, academic research and health
respectively) which will appear in the Resource Centre.
You are invited to look through our web pages to see some of the
other changes that have been introduced to date, and we
hope to make the web site a place that you will find more and
more useful.
Over recent weeks, I have embarked on leading the committee
through a strategic review of the work that we will be undertaking
over the next few years. Whilst the review is not fully completed
yet, much has been agreed by the committee already and we have
published some of the work done to date on these web pages under
the strategy, objectives and programs
section.
I hope that you enjoy learning more about the Construction Group
via our web pages, and that it inspires you to get involved in the
work we do, in what I feel is a thoroughly worthwhile and rewarding
cause.
Yours
sincerely
David
Ackerley
