Fire destroys twenty four cars at Stanstead Airport
31 August 2010
Twenty-four cars belonging to people
travelling abroad have been burnt out at Stansted Airport after a
blaze took hold in a car park.
Fire crews were called to Zone C of the long-stay area shortly
before 2.30am; 20 August after staff spotted a car alight on CCTV
footage. However, within minutes the flames had engulfed a whole
row of vehicles.
It took 25 fire fighters including a team from the airport's own
fire service, one hour to bring the blaze under control.
A spokesman said:
“It will be an unpleasant surprise for
the owners returning to find their cars wrecked.
“But we are arranging free taxis to take them
home or a 40 per cent discount with a car rental firm.”
