Overview
Event management including learning the lessons from
the 'Dreamspace' tragedy.
A stadium tour may be available. (There may be limited

Speakers
Pam Waldron, Head of Operations
for HSE’s Field Operations Directorate in the North East will
expand on her July SHP article about the ‘Dreamspace’
incident and subsequent trial. She will explain the
circumstances that led to the inflatable artwork becoming
airborne, the failures of those involved, including the
competence issues that the case highlighted, and the lessons
for those organising public events.
Cameron Adam, HSE’s new Head of Commercial and
Consumer Services and Entertainment and Leisure Section
will provide an oversight of the UK Event Safety scene.
Adrian Tinson who is leading the review of HSG 195 (Purple Guide)
will also give an update of this significant piece of events
guidance.
Jon Wort / Resilient Consultants – Experts in
crowd control and course facilitators at Easingwold Emergency
Planning College, will talk about the theories of crowd dynamics
and give practical examples of how to prevent crowd issues at your
events.
Northumbria Police Superintendent Derek Scott.
Northumbria Police play a major proactive role in North East
ranging from football matches to Sunderland International Air show.
Today they will give an insight into major event control from
strategic to practical implementation (Gold, Silver and Bronze
Command). They will also explain how an event manager can utilize
event profile intelligence to their advantage and will give
examples of how to place contingency plans within your current
event safety plans. The benefits of 'table top' exercises
will also be explained as a vital tool to the event organiser.
Ken Scott, Author of the Event Safety Guide and
Chair of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) for the Sunderland
Association Football Club (SAFC) and The Stadium of Light with
regard to major music concerts such as Take That, OASIS and the
forthcoming ‘PINK' tour. Ken will detail the processes that
the group goes through in preparation for major concerts and the
football season and how this evolutionary process is consistently
being reviewed and improved.
