Careers, Education
and IPD
Overview
An opportunity for members to gather information which will
support both their own professional development, and the
development of staff across their organisations.
The session will start with a presentation by Charlotte Angus who
will discuss the business benefits of learning and
development. In an increasingly challenging economic climate
it is important to ensure that colleagues are equipped with the
tools, skills, knowledge and behaviour to enable success and well
being at work. Those organising training need to consider
constraints on time and money and how business can move from valued
classroom based training to a culture of effective continuous
development.
Whatever the solution, learning and development must demonstrate
any time or cost investment has a positive impact on business
performance and colleague engagement. Charlotte will discuss how
effective analysis and planning make this possible.
We will then have a speaker from NEBOSH to talk about the courses
that NEBOSH offers and the benefits of NEBOSH courses. This
is by NEBOSH and not by a training provider who delivers their
courses.
The rest of the event will then cover progression routes available
to members through our professional body. When you want to
progress to CMIOSH, for example, you need to undertake the IPD
process. This is often seen as a complicated and drawn out
process, but it doesn't have to be and you'll learn a lot from the
process about who you are as a professional.
In this event we are therefore going to look at the routes to
obtaining CMIOSH and the interview which goes with all of these
routes. We will conduct a mock interview so that you can see
some of the pitfalls and identify what to avoid. Coupled with
this we have invited IOSH HQ to the branch meeting to showcase the
new online system of undertaking the skills development portfolio
or SDP.
In addition to the presentations, a number of local training
providers will also host stalls. These will give you the
opportunity to discuss your own training needs, and the training
needs of your organisation with local specialist training
providers. TDR, Baltic and Sunderland University/Integra are among
those who have already agreed to be exhibitors.
What's in it for me
An invaluable overview of the state of play in learning and
development, and of the professional grades open to members, as
well as a route map to progression for all.
Who should attend?
All members interested in progressing their careers by the
attainment of the Institution's professional grades of
membership.
