CWERC research project
The Cardiff University based Cardiff Work
Environment Research Centre (CWERC), which IOSH co-sponsors through
its Research and Development Fund, is undertaking a European
Commission-funded research project on the implementation of the
Chemical Agents Directive.
The project, headed by Professor David Walters, is designed to
explore issues concerning the experience of workers and managers of
the implementation and operation of the Directive in
workplaces.
The research team is very keen to talk to key
individuals with an interest in this area.
The subjects they are especially interested in embrace the
general appreciation of participants concerning the transposition
of the Chemical Agents Directive measures into law. In addition
they want to talk to participants about their experience of issues
such as:
- risk assessment in terms of sources of information to enable
the safe use of substances
- understanding and role of exposure limits and
- the experience of the operation of monitoring
requirements.
Support from prevention services on these issues, especially in
relation to accessibility and effectiveness, is also of
interest.
Questions concerning general prevention strategies for hazardous
substances, risk management measures and control strategies
(including the role of substitution) adopted in their workplaces
are also envisaged.
Finally, the research team is interested in hearing
about experiences of health surveillance in relation to hazardous
substances, the extent and experience of training and consultation
with workers on all these matters, and the role of enforcement in
their operation.
