Rod studied civil engineering and accountancy before joining an oil exploration company and living in a variety of accommodation and environments around the world.  9 years in operations was followed by 3 years in safety roles working with management and field crews.  For the next 20 years, he developed a safety consultancy for the same industry, selling up in 2006.  He now acts as a consultant inside and outside his current employer, with a particular interest in renewable energy.
