IOSH membership grade:
Tech IOSH
Why I serve as a committee Member:
I have been a member of IOSH since 1993; I was co-opted onto the
committee as a Hospitality Specialist in 1997 and thanks to our
former Chair (J. Kirkpatrick) and Secretary (W. Finlay) it wasn’t
long before I was allocated all sorts of non-hospitality issues! I
took up secretary role in 2010, having deputised during the
previous year or so and I’m still enjoying committee / branch
involvement. I have a “fetishes” about being organised, customer
care and the like, and I enjoy meeting new people … I do admit
though I’m not so hot at remembering names! I’m dedicated to
helping our Branch grow and develop further within Northern Ireland
and further afield.
My background and experience:
I began my career within Hospitality Management, moving on to
become a lecturer within FE and at the University of Ulster
(16years); then I got the real Health & Safety bug for and
became a H&S Consultant / CDM-C for a time before being made
redundant. Each of my jobs included responsibility for health,
safety and training and this continues in my current role where I
coordinate and managing a large team of volunteers within the
3rd sector.
My specialist skills and knowledge:
Hospitality Management, Tourism, Training, Construction and
Volunteering – I’m especially interested in auditing.
