Overview

The presentation is titled "Managing Your Waste" and will start with a brief introduction to the Environment Agency and its role. 

It will then cover storage and management of waste on site for a typical SME.

The talk will include the following aspects:-

  • changes brought in the by the 2011 Waste Regulations, including the waste hierarchy
  • separate collection of waste streams
  • waste duty of care requirements including waste carriers
  • requirements for hazardous waste
  • waste exemptions and permits
  • enforcement and penalties

What's in it for me

The meeting will provide an opportunity to understand the requirements of the legislation, and the opportunity to interact with an experienced EA officer.

NB: Attendance of the meeting will entitle IOSH members to be entered into a prize draw for a ticket for both days of the IOSH Conference in Manchester on 6 and 7 March (travel and accommodations costs are the responsibility of the winner)

Speakers

Mandy Langstaff Senior Environment Officer (Waste Specialist) - Environment Agency Wales

Mandy has worked for the Environment Agency and its predecessors since 1992.  During this time has primarily worked in Environment Management specialising in the regulation of waste sites and waste legislation. 

Her main role is to co-ordinate and oversee delivery of the Environment Agency’s waste compliance activities in North Wales.  This includes providing advice and guidance to businesses and the public on their responsibilities under waste legislation. 

As well as working in waste permitting and have undertaken a number of assignments, including one to ENTRUST the regulator of the landfill tax credits scheme and more recently to the Environment Agency’s head office working on the securing compliant waste exports project.
