Statutory Inspection - Dispelling myths and raising
standards
Overview
The Midland Branch meeting for 5 July 2012 will
feature a presentation by Philip Wright, Chief Engineer Allianz
Engineering.
Phils presentation will look to dispel some of the myths
associated with statutory inspection along with raising awareness
of common failings associated with statutory inspection.
Our Speaker
Phil Wright, a chartered mechanical engineer
who began his career with a 5 year craft apprenticeship to a small,
family owned crane making business on Merseyside. He went onto
become a design draughtsman before joining Royal Insurance as an
Engineer Surveyor based in Southern Ireland.
Phil went to Liverpool University as a mature student on the
strength of his HNC and gained an honours degree in Metallurgy.
Phil was a practicing metallurgist with IMI before joining BNFL as
a lifting machines specialist. This was followed by 4 years as
Engineering Manager for the Heavy Cranes Division of Davy
Morris.
Phil rejoined the inspection industry in 1991, becoming the
Engineering Standards Manager for RSA before joining Allianz
Engineering, (the UK's largest statutory inspection body), as Chief
Engineer in 1997.
He has specific interests in promoting better
health and safety in the workplace and in the application of the
Health and Safety at Work Act and its wide range of attendant
regulations.
Allianz Engineering employs nearly 600
engineer surveyors and it is Phil's job to maintain the technical
competence of the surveyors who carry out the inspections, the
legal compliance of the Company's inspection service and to provide
market leading engineering support to brokers and clients.
