Welcome
The IOSH Middle East Branch was
launched in June 2006 in Dubai by then IOSH President Neil
Budworth, who inaugurated the branch and recognised the elected
executive committee.
The branch was established to help local
and international health and safety practitioners to
integrate and to promote best practice across the Middle East
region. We currently have over 950 members, and are growing
rapidly.
Message from Jonathan Pickering,
Chair
We ended the 2011/12 year with another hugely
successful Middle East annual conference held for the first time in
Muscat. This was a great opportunity to highlight the work of
our members in Oman with 130 delegates attending the event from
around the Middle East. IOSH in Oman has a bright future in
2012 as they move towards forming the IOSH Oman branch.
Qatar made an important step for the Middle
East network, forming the IOSH Qatar branch in December 2011.
The IOSH Qatar branch will be lead the way in the year to come with
a launch event on 1 October 2012 and by hosting the fourth Middle
East annual conference and AGM in Doha in April 2013.
Our focus remains supporting our members to
assist them develop themselves and gain recognition through the
membership grades. We also need to focus on ensuring we draw in
members to support our growing network of committees to provide a
sustainable presence in the region.
Our objectives for 2012/13 are as follows:
- Support safety and health professionals in
achieving their goals with Initial Professional Development (IPD)
and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Introduce new members to our professional
body
- Organise professional events for networking
and sharing knowledge
- Develop alliances with government and private
organisations to promote safer work environments across the
region
Please contact me if you would like to offer
your services in some way and check the website and IOSH Connect
for details of forthcoming activities.
We have made significant steps in building
IOSH across the region and I look forward to the year
ahead.
