63rd annual IOSH conference and exhibition
9 August 2011
The IOSH Manchester and North West Districts
Branch has already started to get involved in preparations for the
63rd annual IOSH conference and exhibition.
IOSH 2012 conference and exhibition is taking
place on Tuesday 06 and Wednesday 07 March 2012 at the Manchester
Central Convention Complex, an award-winning conference and
exhibition venue situated in the heart of the city of Manchester,
formerly known as the G Mex and the Manchester International
Conference Centre.
The vaulted arches and iconic clock of the
venue continue to be a much-loved feature of the city’s skyline and
have been an integral part of Manchester for nearly 130 years,
making it a superb setting for the annual event.
The Manchester Branch is one of the largest
IOSH branches, with over 3,000 members. Holding this free-to-attend
extensive exhibition and pay-to-attend multi-track conference in a
city with such excellent transport links makes it easy to attend
for members and practitioners from the North West, from the rest of
the UK and from across the world.
The Immediate Past Chair of the branch, Des
Riley, met the IOSH Events team and conference providers, United
Business Media (UBM), towards the end of July 2011 to start
discussions on the local branch’s involvement in the event. It’s
always been a priority for the annual conference and exhibition
planning committee to consult and involve the local branch, who’ll
have an extensive knowledge and understanding of the region and its
members.
During these discussions, plans were put in
place for the Manchester Branch to host a technical site visit at
one of the city’s hotspots on the afternoon of Monday 05 March, for
delegates and visitors arriving in Manchester ahead of the event.
More information about this visit will follow shortly, once the
best venue for the visit has been chosen.
Des will also be assisting the Events team and
UBM to select a suitable venue for the drinks reception following
day one of the conference on Tuesday 06 March, which all conference
attendees are invited to attend. The evening always offers
unmissable networking opportunities. Members of the Manchester
Branch committee will be present to talk to delegates about joining
the branch or about how to get more involved with IOSH and branch
activities at a committee level.
The Manchester Branch has supported the annual
conference and exhibition for many years and this is their
opportunity to really get involved. Des
Riley, Immediate Past Chair, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity
for IOSH members and the community they serve to discover how the
world's leading health and safety experts keep abreast of current
developments. So, whether you are new to the profession or have
been involved for many years come along and enhance your
professional development.”
We’ll keep you updated on the branch’s
involvement in the IOSH 2012 preparations over the coming months
and we hope to see you there!
