We are delighted to report another very successful Eastern
District Annual Seminar held at the Regency Hotel, Dublin on
26th May 2010.
Dr. P.J. Claffey spoke about the Authorities strategy in
particular around chemical safety. He outlined
the Health & Safety Authorities Mission Statement
included a desire to influence employer and employee behaviour
and protect ill health and injury. Dr. Claffey outlined
that the Authority aim to influence chemical legislation and
develop appropriate policies, increase awareness in chemical safety
and reduce fatalities. As part of workplace safety promotion
the Authority are also involving future workers by working in
schools and developing e-learning.
Mr. Paul Foran spoke about the recent Health & Safety
Executive's strategy HSG 264 Survey Guide. Mr. Foran outlined
that key to managing Asbestos is to identify its location prior to
2000, prepare a management plan and implement this plan. He
emphasised that you don't have to remove asbestos but need to
manage the risk.
Ms. Caroline Walsh spoke around the new CLP Regulations, the aim
of which is to maintain the same level of protection. Ms.
Walsh outlined the changes to symbols; classification deadlines;
labelling; hazard statements and precautionary statements.
