H&S in Extreme Environments - Mountain Rescue
Overview
Jonathan Hart is
employed by Northern
Constabulary and manages the development of the Highlands and
Islands Strategic Coordinating Group (HISCG). Further details can
be found at http://www.handiprepared.gov.uk/
Jonathan is an active member of
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team and the Chairman of the Mountain
Rescue Committee of Scotland (further details at http://www.mountainrescuescotland.org.uk/)
Jonathan's talk will outline the
role of volunteers involved in emergency response in Scotland and
will raise questions with regard to the interpretation of
current H&S legislation and working practises in the light of
recent Fatal Accident Inquiries (FAI's) and recent
incidents. As well discussing the work of the
Scottish Mountain Rescue Teams and the challenges they
face on and off the mountains, he's looking forward to an
interactive talk and hopes to learn more about these issues from
his select, well-educated and considerably more knowledgable
audience!
Ian Soden (Branch Secretary) will
host a Q and A session as part of this meeting's
event.
What's in it for me
IOSH is the conduit for knowledge, opinion and research on many
important matters affecting the health and safety profession, and
is often consulted by government departments for members' views on
draft legislation, codes of practice and other government
initiatives.
We aim to ensure that our members have a strong and effective
voice which influences health and safety
related issues with governments, employers
and trades unions.
Who should attend?
All members and interested non-members are very welcome. Our
meetings start at 15:00 and you can come along 14:30 for
some refreshments and pre-meeting networking.
