Frequently Asked Questions

Can you provide further details about the content of the presentation?

Details are shown on the branch events pages, covering an outline of the presentation and key points, target audience, brief biography of the presenter. Just click on the event title in the list to see the information.

Do I have to reserve a place?

For most events there is no need to book, just turn up and you will be welcome. Any events where pre-booking is required, full details on how to book a place will be shown.

Is there charge?

There are no charges for attending Branch meetings and presentations, they are free. Charges only apply to seminars and special events where information on any charges is set out in the details for the event.

Where do I park?

A free car park is provided at Writtle College, just follow the signs and make sure you collect a parking permit or print one off when you sign in on the attendance register at reception in the Northumberland Building.

Can you me directions to Writtle College?

A full set of directions and map is available on the Essex Branch website under the tab labelled “Venue Information”.

When I get to Writtle College where can I find you? 

Events are usually held in the Northumberland Building which can be found on a map of the college campus that is listed under “Venue Information” on the Essex Branch website.

Can I bring a colleague?

Yes by all means you can bring a colleague. If you wish to bring a number of people please contact the Branch Secretary in advance so we have an idea of numbers.

Do I need to be an IOSH member to attend?

Anyone can attend our meetings they are open to non-members. All we ask is that you make yourself known by signing the attendance register at reception.

Can you contact me if the event is cancelled/topic changes/time changes?

You are advised to keep checking the Branch Website for latest messages before you attend. At the present time we are unable to advise attendees individually, however IOSH is looking at a technical solution to make this possible in the future.

Can you email details about future events?

Due to data protection issues we are unable to email members directly from the Essex Branch. IOSH are looking at ways of achieving this in future without compromising data protection rules. Details of all our events can be found on our events page and are also published in Connect [IOSH’s bi-weekly electronic newsletter]

What is the dress code?

There is no dress code as such for any of our meetings; you can dress as is most comfortable for you.

How do I provide comments or feedback?

A form is provided for each person who attends for them to leave comments and suggestions. If you wish to make further comments these can be e-mailed to the Branch Secretary using the email link on the Essex Branch website.

I have an idea for a Branch Event, can you organise it?

The Branch Executive Committee is always interested to hear about suggestions for future events. E-mail your suggestion/speaker details to the Branch Secretary. Please note the events programme is planned over a year in advance and therefore it maybe sometime before the event could be run.

Can I become more involved with the work of the Branch?

Yes! Here are some of the options:

The Branch Executive, which manages the Branch events programme, is elected at the Annual General Meeting each spring. It normally meets every two months to discuss and plan how we can help members develop their competence through Branch events and workshops. There may even be a vacancy currently – speak to a member of the current Executive Committee to let us know you are interested;

  • Organising an event, workshop or site visit.
  • Becoming a mentor to members who are new to profession.
  • Becoming a Branch representative for the IOSH specialist group you belong to (e.g. Construction, Public Services).

Allocating CPD Points for attending branch meetings?

You can allocate CPD points based on the value of the presentation represents to you personally.
