Ageing Plant and Life Extension
Overview
Steve will talk about the
safety challenges faced by the UK's offshore industry due
to the ageing nature of North Sea platforms, with over
half past their original design life. He will describe
the findings from HSE's "KP4" inspection programme, which
assessed how the industry was effectively controlling the risks to
asset integrity associated with ageing plant and life
extension, and will look at the lessons for the safe
management of old plant and equipment in other onshore
industries.

Charity event
In association with this meeting - Motorcycle Ride
Out – H&S on two wheels!
Charity Run to promote motorcycle safety, in
aid of East Anglia Air Ambulance and Local Motorcycle Safety
Charities.
To all motorcyclists within the EA IOSH Branch
or other Local Safety Groups,
As a keen motorcyclist I often attend the IOSH
Branch Meetings on ‘two wheels’, I’ve noticed that many members’ of
the local safety community have a keen interest in bikes. I’d like
to try and arrange an informal ‘ride out’ after the 21 September
2012 meeting which will be held in Diss at the Bowls Club.
I’m hoping that we can raise some money
for relevant local charities through voluntary donations, promote
motorcycle safety and find out some more about the motorcyclists we
have in the Branch. It does seem as if Motorcycling attracts safety
people!
This isn’t a Branch event, just a bit of fun,
I hope to arrange for some photo’s and perhaps do an article for
the safety press.
The idea is to take a small ride out, just for
1hr or so, nothing crazy just a gentle jaunt to somewhere using
some of our excellent road network. We can take a break (perhaps
fish and chips) and have a chat, before heading home in the
daylight (which is 8.00pm ish in early Sept)
I have organised a pre-ride briefing and will
plan a suitable number of ‘ride leaders’ from the local advanced
motorcycle clubs of which many of you may well already be members.
Obviously all riders will be responsible for their own
machines/pillions and directions.
The route and destination haven’t been agreed
yet, so if any of you have any good ideas for a destination I’d be
pleased to hear them, I’m thinking somewhere near Bury St Edmunds –
Cambridge so no one has too far to travel home afterwards.
I’m hoping for a good turnout with a good
variety of bikes and some good weather. If you think you’d like to
come along, subject to weather and so on, please send me an email
to indicate an interest.
I look forward to hearing from you.
