Governments
Our aim is to make sure that our members
have a strong and effective voice to positively influence
government on health and safety related issues, sharing knowledge
and raising standards.
IOSH is a focus for knowledge, opinion and research on
work-related health and safety matters, and we believe it's vital
for the health and safety profession to contribute to national and
international decision-making. We're regularly consulted by
government departments for members' views on draft legislation,
codes of practice and other initiatives and have also given written
and oral evidence to various select committee inquiries.
Independent and apolitical, we take an active role in
campaigning and lobbying for important changes that can bring
health and safety improvements. This includes:
- attending political conferences
- meeting parliamentarians and senior advisers and
administrators
- hosting debates and seminars
- suggesting parliamentary questions and motions
- proposing and supporting draft Bills
- making presentations at fringe events.
We also work collaboratively with government on various
projects, including research, developing online tools and training
materials, and running a pilot course for health and safety
practitioners on occupational health issues.
